Respecting a legal trailblazer* 

    Ruth Bader Ginsburg (March 15, 1933-September 18, 2020) was an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, the second woman and the first Jewish woman appointed to the court in U.S. history. She made history one final time Friday as she became the first woman and Jewish person to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol.

   —Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts: “Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”

   —Chris Scalia, the son of the late Associate Justice Antonin Scalia hailed the Supreme Court justices' unlikely but special friendship: “They held very strong, very different views. They wrote opinions that disagreed with each other's opinions -- and they didn't pull any punches in those opinions -- but they never let those strong, deeply held beliefs get in the way of their friendship.”
